Rani Kot is one of the largest forts in the world. Burrow

ing in the dry cliffs of Khirthar, these walls are a sign of a bygone era. When was this fort built and which rulers built it? Experts have not yet reached a conclusion.

  Rani Kot is a mystery

Fort Rani Kot has been a mystery to archaeologists. International experts and scholars from Sindh have been circulating it for decades. But there is no definitive consensus as to when the fort was built.

Great fortress but backwardness

The Gabol tribe resides in the Rani Kot area. There is no internet, no schools and no hospitals in the area. Some homes have solar power systems. Abdul Zaq Gabol grew up here. He runs a self-help school in the area and helps the government protect and promote the fort.

Roads leading to the fort

Rani Kot is located in Jamshoro District of Sindh. It takes about four hours to reach there from Karachi and the roads leading to it are very dilapidated. You can travel on foot or in a four-by-jeep to get to different places inside the fort.

Pond of natural springs

There is a beautiful natural spring pond a few kilometers from Meri Kot. This place in the middle of the mountains is of special interest to tourists. According to local tradition, in the past, fairies used to come here to bathe. In Sindhi language, this place is called "Parin Jo Tar" or "Fairy Pond".

Why such a big fort?

According to some experts, the fort was built during the Sassanid period. But what was the need to build such a large fort in these deserts? It's not clear yet. However, most experts agree that the last major repair work on the fort took place in the early 19th century during the Talpur period.

Fort maintenance work

The Endowment Trust Fund has been working to restore the fort for the past few years. This construction and repair work requires specific skills to restore archeological buildings to their original condition as much as possible.
